White-breasted Nuthatch

White-breasted Nuthatch
The White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis) is a small bird native to North America. It has a stocky build, with a blue-gray back, white face, and a black cap on its head. As its name suggests, it has a white breast and belly. Its bill is short and pointed, and it has strong toes and claws for clinging to tree trunks and branches. White-breasted Nuthatches are often seen crawling headfirst down tree trunks and branches, probing for insects and seeds with their long, curved bills. They have a distinctive nasal call that sounds like "yank-yank." They are non-migratory and can be found year-round in deciduous and mixed forests throughout much of North America.
